Jammu, Sep 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) J&K Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat, reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operations in Poonch district on Monday, officials said.
The DGP, who was accompanied by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Tejinder Singh, held a detailed review of the operations currently underway in the district, as well as its overall security situation.
"The DGP was briefed about the latest developments, operational preparedness and coordination among different security agencies on the ground. The visit assumes significance in view of recent attempts at infiltration and movement of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in the Pir Panjal region," an official said.
Recently, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted multiple raids in the Mandi and Surankote areas of Poonch (as well as Udhampur) targeting networks propagating radicalisation and cross-border communication.
The SIA recovered evidence indicating that several locals were in direct communication with handlers across the Line of Control (LoC). These channels were allegedly utilised to spread secessionist narratives and advance online radicalisation.
In early September, border troops detected a group of terrorists attempting to cross the LoC near Dabbi village in the Balakote sector (Mendhar). A heavy exchange of fire ensued, leading to extensive combing operations in the local forest belts.
Massive cordon-and-search operations (CASO) remain active in remote forest pockets including Dhara Sangla, Bhatadurian, and Kherowali Dhok. These were triggered by technical intelligence and local observations of suspicious movements near critical infrastructure projects like the under-construction Pir Panjal tunnel.
High-level security assessments and intelligence-based raids dictate the current anti-terror operational landscape in the Poonch district. Joint security grids involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and specialised central agencies have escalated measures to thwart cross-border infiltration and dismantle terror networks.
